One end of Beale Street is under water. Beale is the Memphis lane that is one of that Southern city's chief tourist attractions. It has been fashioned into a shrine to the Blues and the formative era of Rock and Roll. My brother makes guitars at the Gibson factory just around the corner. Just off the way, down General Washburn's Escape Alley, is the Rendezvous, the best rib joint in this or any other kosmos. I have worshiped there on many an occasion.
The Rendezvous is below street level. The Mississippi River is 45 feet above flood stage. It is predicted to crest at 48 feet. That means it is about ten times as wide as the Lord seems to have planned for. We are probably witnessing the greatest rise in our big river since the 1927 flood. This one is probably going to break that record. The Memphis Airport is completely flooded.
Those of you who hope that prayers can have effect might put in a word for the good folks who are standing knee deep in chocolate water.
