12:12am. With ten precincts left to count, Noem is ahead of Herseth Sandlin by about 3% of the vote. That amounts to more than a lead of more than 8,000 votes out of more 300,000 votes cast. That is well outside of the 1% threshold for an automatic recount.
11:30 With 704 of 791 precincts reporting, Noem leads by a little more than 7,000 votes. Remaining precincts include a little more than half of Todd and Shanon counties, and a few in Custer and Pennington Counties. There is something odd about the precincts reporting number on Minnehaha county, but they seem to be all in.
It looks to me unlikely that there are enough votes outstanding in friendly real estate for HS to catch up. However, I remember watching John Thune's lead over Tim Johnson evaporate at the very end, so I will hold my call.
10:40 John Boehner is giving an acceptance speech. The networks have all called the House of Representatives for the Republicans. The best guess now is about sixty seats.
10:14 pm Noem is ahead now by a little over 1%.
Well, contrary to what Badlands Blue predicted, it looks like Dennis Daugaard is going to win the South Dakota State House by a comfortable margin. Amazingly enough, John Thune is also favored to win.
Early returns show a close race for House.
My cringe moment of the night was the KDLT reporter asking John Thune how much momentum he thought he was going to get out of his election victory.

Please let us know what happens in our state legislature, in terms of net party gains/losses in both houses.
