In my opinion, the far left has had a serious destructive effect on the Democratic party. I can say plenty in favor of some of their positions, and plenty (more) against them; one can debate endlessly as to the benefits vs. the drawbacks of universal health care, for example. However, the American people, in the main, don't want to live in a society governed by the far left. Few of us want socialism. Most of us abhor socialism. It's that simple.

Rubio is a force. Democrats know he has the sort of personality and conviction that could sway Latino voters away from Democrats for decades.

Maybe, Stan. A lot of this is cyclical but this is surely an unusual cycle. It's the economy and and the deficits that are weighing the Democrats down most. The health care bill is especially damaging because of that context.

William

KB,

Some of it IS cyclical, but I think we are seeing a fundamental shift. The "malaise" of the Carter years helped turn the nation to a conservative shift with Ronald Reagan, but even he was unable to fundamentally move the country away from a more expansive and more powerful Federal government.

As we've reached a point where Europe realizes it "can't afford to be Europe anymore" and a global economy based on bubbles is about to "pop", we've reached the point that politicians can no longer "kick the can down the road" but are being forced to recognize that truly "government is not the answer, government is the problem".

I'm yet to be convinced that we have the political will to downsize the Federal government to the extent necessary, but we've reached the point where we either make the hard choices necessary or necessity will make the choices for us.

KB

William: I think we are in agreement, sort of. Perhaps we are about to witness a fundamental shift, as you put it. There is no good reason to think this will mean a period of Republican dominance. If the Republicans can't move toward a reasonable solution to the "European problem", then they won't be able to capitalize on this year's success. If they do, then they will likely be punished for it, as no good deed goes unpunished.

There are so many negative things happening in our country its hard to sort through them all. Particularly in the past 2 years we are seeing a lot of changes, not for the good of our country! We need to take a close look at the most recent changes. We are seeing a president who does not respect our flag, has a condescending attitude, and has cancelled the national day of prayer!! We are currently being threatened on many fronts. We have serious immigration problems that the federal government will not take a stand on, and won't support the states, who are experiencing violence as a result. He think we should be tolerant to muslims who want to build a mosque at ground zero?? Would a Christian president be doing these things?? Seems very odd to me. As Christian American citizens its time to get some real answers to these and many other questions that affect our great country. We need to stand up for ourselves, and unite together to support our God, our faith, our families and our future. If you agree; please go to: www.PatrioticChristiansToday.com and join us.
