Why is health care reform failing in the U.S.? Blame it on Canada!
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams will undergo heart surgery later this week in the United States…
Mr. Williams' decision to leave Canada for the surgery has raised eyebrows over his apparent shunning of Canada's health-care system.
"It was never an option offered to him to have this procedure done in this province," said Ms. Dunderdale, refusing to answer whether the procedure could be done elsewhere in Canada.
Let's get this straight. The Premier of Newfoundland is coming to the United States for heart surgery because he can't get it in his own province and presumably nowhere else in Canada. Well, that does raise eyebrows, doesn't it?
Maybe this is one reason that the Democrats have failed to make the American health care system more like the Canadian one. Otherwise, where would Canadian premiers go when they need surgery?
At least the care they don't have is free! Unless you count taxes.

Traveling frequently to Canada and having friends there it has been my observation that Canadians love their health care system until they have to use it. The failings of nationalized health care have led Alberta and Ontario to commence experiments with fee for service (private) health care to alleviate the pressure (you may read that as delays and expense) on the public system (called Medicare).
The Medicare system in the U.S. will soon look like this as the "Baby Boom" generation moves into the system.

Miranda: "the care they don't have is free" is priceless. I reserve the right to use it in the future.
George: I wish I had said what you said.
