Barack's Amateur Hour 2: Biden Time!

For a while there they managed to keep Joe Biden wrapped up tighter than a store-bought burrito.  And then, God bless 'em, the Vice President spoke out loud about (flu name to be designated later).  From ABC:

At a news conference Wednesday evening, President Obama said Americans who may be sick should avoid airplanes and "any system of public transportation where you're confined," but the vice president today took it one step further.

"I would tell members of my family -- and I have -- I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now. It's not that it's going to Mexico in a confined aircraft where one person sneezes, that goes all the way through the aircraft," Biden said on NBC's "Today" show.

So Vice President Biden just issued his own no travel alert (not to mention, no elevators alert).  This caused some understandable concern on the part of the travel industry, already struggling from the recession.  I am guessing it probably panicked more than a few would be travelers.  Of course, it was the right thing to say if it was true.  But the Administration moved quickly to shut down the whole idea. 

We already know something very important about Joe Biden.  He often speaks about things he knows nothing about.  That's not unusual for politicians.  But most of the latter are shrewd enough to speak in vague generalities and platitudes.  Biden does something very different: he just starts inventing facts and ideas out of thin air.  See my earlier post Joe Biden's True Knowledge for examples.  The facts he conjures up are often pretty specific, and as in this case, they may be the kind of facts that one should act on if they were true. 

This is the man who is one heartbeat away from the Presidency.  Let's hope that the host of Barack's  Amateur Hour remains healthy.

I liked what he said just after that:

"If you're out in the middle of a field and someone sneezes, that's one thing, if you're in a closed aircraft or closed container or closed car or closed classroom it's a different thing.""

It's being in those closed containers that you really have to worry about.
