Jimmy Carter must be a very frustrated man. It's one thing when the Bush administration refuses to cover the ammunition bill for Hamas as it wages its civil war against Fatah in Gaza. You'd expect that kind of stubbornness from Bush. But for the European Union to go along, well, one would have thought the French would be more enlightened. Now it seems that the other Middle Eastern countries are joining the West in isolating Hamas. Egypt has invited leaders of Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority (Fatah) to meet and look for ways to shore up embattled PA President Mahmoud Abbas. Only Qatar and Carter are left to defend those poor Hamas gunmen. And Qatar is looking shaky.
