I just watched Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Live in '58, a DVD I got from Netflicks. It includes a complete concert in Belgium. Apparently a lot of jazz was filmed in Europe in the late 50's/early 60's. I posted some time ago on a Dexter Gordon number filmed in Holland. The JM DVD is 55 minutes of excellent jazz, featuring (heads up, Jason!) Lee Morgan on trumpet; Benny Golson on tenor; Bobby Timmons on piano, and Jymie Merritt on bass. The finale is devoted to Dizzy Gillespie's standard, "A Night in Tunisia," but I think the performance of "Moanin," written and arranged by Timmons, is by far the best thing on the disk. You can hear most of the material on the CD Moanin', along with several numbers by Golson. It is very good jazz.
