We here at SDP try to keep our readers fully informed about the zombie menace (note: this is not an immigration metaphor). I am currently reading World War Z, by Max Brooks. This is an oral history of the zombie war that recently decimated the human population. I'll write a full review when I am finished, but every page raises a few more hairs on the back of my neck. I gave the book to my teenage son, and he has now given it back to me.
I am pleased to see that Will Smith is starring in I Am Legend, coming in November. Richard Matheson's novel, published in 1954, might be the single most influential horror novel (at least where cinema is concerned) after The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. It tells the story of Robert Neville, the last human being, who lives in a fortified house surrounded nightly by vampires. It is the inspiration for nearly every modern zombie movie, as well as the masterful Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston. The new movie is the first to use the original title. My son tipped me off to this one as well.
