Linda Milazzo at the Huffington Post threw in a few unkind remarks about South Dakota’s Tom Daschle in what was primarily an anti-Bill Frist screed and a lament that, with Frist on board, she can’t support ONE Vote ‘08.
Tom Daschle is also unsuitable, but for less nefarious reasons. He’s merely a lackluster, uninspired leader. A trait he passed on to Harry Reid. …
A nation that invests even a second to destroy life rather than sustain it commits crimes against humanity. Tragically billions, trillions, ‘gazillions’ of those seconds have already passed us by. Umpteen of them during the tenures of Tom Daschle and Bill Frist.
She then holds up South Dakota’s George McGovern as a shining example of a non-lackluster leader.
Couldn’t an effort as valiant and worthwhile as ONE Vote find two more worthwhile leaders? … Former Senators George McGovern, a Democrat, and Bob Dole, a Republican, are two highly respected leaders of their parties who have teamed in a national and global effort to combat world hunger.
Daschle’s critics usually come from the other side of the aisle and, it seemed to me, were most upset when he performed well by organizing the congressional personalities under the congressional rules and blocking Republican initiatives. I guess he’s got critics under his tent, too.
On a side note, McGovern Day was last Saturday here in Mitchell, and coming up there is an event planned for July 10th at the McGovern Library to celebrate the former Senator's birthday. I encourage anyone who can attend to do so, if only to check out the excellent museum displays.
