From the Argus Leader:
In a discussion on climate change with Georgetown University students, Daschle said he regrets his vote nearly 10 years ago in favor of a resolution that opposed the Kyoto Protocol, a worldwide agreement to reduce air emissions that are causing climate change. Senators were concerned the treaty would undermine the U.S. economy and the vote in the Senate was 95-0. The U.S. is the world’s largest single emitter of greenhouse gases, according to the Energy Information Administration.
“Obviously when you cast as many votes as I did over 26 years, some stand out as remarkably ill-informed and wrong,” said Daschle, a visiting professor at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. “For me, two that come immediately to mind is the vote on (the war in) Iraq and the vote on Kyoto. Had I known then what I know now, obviously, in both cases, my vote would have been dramatically different.”
