In a recent post, Clean Cut Kid suggested an ominous comparison:
Disturbingly, the modern-day Republican Party seems to have a lot in common with fundamentalist Islam.
Interesting though, the link provided does not mention Republicans. It mentions only Iran. But I will concede the point. Conservatives have campaigned for the dismissal of some leftist professors for saying outrageous things. I have written in defense of a couple of such professors, on the grounds that saying outrageous things is sometimes part of a professor's job. I would also note that a lot of folk who comment on CCK would like to dismiss certain local professors because the commenters object to things those professors have published here or elsewhere. Its silly, of course, to make a serious comparison between Republicans and Democrats, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other. But out of charity I will assume that Chad is having fun here.
On that note, I introduce this recent post from CCK.
Schaff asks this question today.
I have no patience for calls of "reasonableness" from a crowd that has regularly hurled insults like "baby killer" and "murderer."
Doesn't the word "crowd" rope a lot of people together in collective guilt? I don't believe that Professor Schaff has ever referred to anyone on the pro-choice side as a "baby killer" or "murderer." I know that I have not. I have condemned such language. But apparently everyone who is pro-life is equally guilty in the eyes of the Pro-choice faithful. And apparently, there is no need to be "reasonable" with pro-life infidels. Only war against such persons is permissible under the faith.
Now I humbly suggest that this kind of reasoning is a bit Jihadist. So I concede the American Taliban award to CCK.
