In case you missed it, Dave Kranz has a piece on South Dakota connections to the Senate race in Virginia. From the Argus Leader:
One of the hottest U.S. Senate races is going on in Virginia, and wouldn’t you know? A South Dakota native and a political operative with ties to the state are right in the middle of it.
The race is between Republican U.S. Sen. George Allen and Democratic challenger James Webb Jr., former secretary of the Navy. . . .
Allen and Webb are examples of a very marketable type of candidate: handsome rugged males who can appeal to the sentiments of the other side. Here are the South Dakota connections:
Leading the spin for Allen is Dick Wadhams, a top GOP strategist who managed Sen. John Thune’s 2004 victory. He is said to be the next Karl Rove in D.C.
Steve Jarding, a Mitchell native who now teaches at Harvard, is Webb’s consultant. Jarding’s credentials include masterminding a gubernatorial victory for Democrat Mark Warner in Republican-dominated Virginia. Warner also is exploring a bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
This is surprising reach for a small state.
