My colleague Professor Schaff notes that the Rolling Stones's Keith Richards took a fall, and may suffer brain damage. P. Schaff wonders how we will be able to tell the difference. Its a fair question. Internally Richards carries the scars of the worst excesses of the sixties. Externally, well, he may be the ugliest famous person on record.
Without spoiling any of this fun, I would point out that the Stones are, beyond a reasonable doubt, the greatest Rock band. Unlike the Beatles, who whimped out early, the Stones kept producing core rock and roll music up to the present day. I can pin down most of the periods in my life by the Stones songs that broke in that time. I would like to see the boys keep on going, and if Richard's means the end of the Stones, that would be a sad day indeed.
ps. He wasn't always, well, quite so ugly.
