Johnson On Alito

I was interviewed by a local paper whose name rhymes with Bargus Fleader about Tim Johnson's decision to back Judge Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court.  I essentially said that Johnson's decision was likely equal parts politics and principle.  This is undoubtedly the smart political move in the state if Sen. Johnson intends to run for re-election in 2008, and it is also the principled decision.  Sen. Johnson has seen through his political disagreements with Judge Alito and recognized that Alito is a superb legal mind and a man of high integrity.  Well done, Senator.
