Another blog is noting the South Dakota legislature's efforts at intellectual diversity:
The South Dakota legislature is proposing that public universities there report regularly on the intellectual diversity present at each campus. Here's the story.
The most important diversity on a college campus, it seems to me, is diversity of ideas. After all, the entire justification of a university is that it is a place where people come to learn and exchange ideas. And that's something that most of the modern, hyper-p.c. academic institutions of higher learning just don't do very well. We need our universities to be more than an echo-chamber for the Left, we need them to be places where ideas (whether left/liberal or conservative) may be openly discussed and critiqued without fear of reprisal from politically correct zealots inhabiting privilged positions within the university hierarchy.
