Now that its too late to do anything about it, you might want to take a look at how Alito's votes on the U.S. Court of Appeals measure against other Republican appointees and Democratic appointees. The Washington Post has a very valuable chart. In a nutshell, Republican and Democratic appointees have very different voting records. For example, in prisoner rights cases, Republican appointees went against the prisoner 79% of the time. Democrat appointees went for the prisoner 64% of the time. Alito's record was against the prisoner 71% of the time. He is in fact a pretty typical Republican appointee.
