As the NARAL slander plays itself out, there is a more subtle distortion being peddled about Roberts: that he opposed the Voting Rights Act. See Richard Hansen in the LATimes, for the basic argument. What Roberts in fact opposed was a change in the VRA that required the creation of majority-minority districts, in which Black or Hispanic voters would be pooled to ensure them the power to choose their own candidates, in protection from the voting power of their fellow citizens. It is fair of civil rights organizations and such to criticize Robert's view on this. But it distorts the record to say that he opposed the Voting Rights Act.
