The Star Tribune lays its principles on the table. American troops should not be used to bring democracy to anyone.
While the Iraqi people seized the day, it was a day achieved through the blood sacrifices of many young Americans. We still don't find that bargain justified. American troops should be called to lay their lives on the line for the defense of their nation, not to bring democracy to anyone. Iraq should not have been invaded.
The "anyone" is pretty firm. No one is saying that we can bring democracy to everyone, by military means or otherwise. But consider what the Trib is saying to the Iraqi people. We're happy for you. But you really aren't worth anything to us because you aren't Americans. Apparently Archie Bunker is voting Democrat now.
