Here's an excerpt from a KELO-Land Television news story tonight:
Daschle said, "If you like politics and competing this was the granddaddy of them all as far as as my public life is concerned."
Daschle says the race was the most negative and most expensive he's ever experienced. He says by election night, he was anxious, knowing the results would be close.
Daschle said, "You try to think about getting through it and hoping for the best and looking for positive signs, some indication that this is going to be successful."
Daschle realized he'd be making this concession speech at 3:30am, when it was obvious the numbers weren't in his favor. Looking back, he wishes the campaign had spent more time on health care.
Daschle said, "I think the untold story is there is a lot of pain and anxiety a lot of concern about how to address health care in the future."
But he won't get into any other issues that could have changed the election's outcome.
Daschle said, "I don't want to go there. I just don't think it has any value or merit."
