It seems that, on Friday, the Gannet Co. Inc. named the Argus Leader one of the best newspapers.
Gannett's Gold Medal awards recognize work by the top newspapers in the company. This year, seven newspapers were included.
It is the fourth Gold Medal in five years for the Argus Leader."This award confirms what I tell myself every day: The Argus Leader is a fine newspaper with an exceptional group of journalists dedicated to serving the readers of this region," Executive Editor Randell Beck said. "It's gratifying to be recognized this way." ...
Beck also was given a President's Ring, his third. The award goes to the top editors in the company.
Gold Medals are based on the quality of news content. Circulation growth, diversity efforts and other factors also are considered. The competition includes some 100 Gannett daily newspapers.
I remind you that Gannett owns the Argus Leader.
